What is the Foundation for a Just Society Grant?
Foundation for a Just Society was established and began making grants to advance the human rights of marginalized women, girls, and LGBTQI people globally. Foundation for a Just Society was founded on the belief that the liberation of women, girls, and LGBTQI people is an essential element of just societies. Change happens when people facing injustice come together to build a mutual understanding of their experiences, identify solutions that can solve a common problem, and collectively advocate for a shared vision.
The Foundation for a Just Society Grant is known to prioritize multi-year, general operating support and avoid restrictions because organizations are able to work more strategically when they have the flexibility to recover from setbacks, seize opportunities, or shift tactics as needed. We avoid grant requirements that are needlessly complex or can exclude groups that are led by the women, girls, and LGBTQI people most affected by injustice. The grants are made for up to three years and range in size from $50,000-$500,000 per year.
The foundation makes grants to LGBT organizations and interests in areas around the globe, with a focus on West Africa, Central America, Southeast Asia, and the southeast United States. The Foundation for a Just Society remains involved with the organizations to which it provides grants. In addition to direct grantmaking, the Organization is active in assisting its grantees by strengthening the organizations through infrastructure development, leadership training and resource exchange.
