What is the Blaenau Gwent Kick Start Plus?

The Blaenau Gwent Kick Start Plus is a joint initiative funded by UK Steel Enterprise and administered by Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council.  The grant is aimed at supporting new businesses from 6 months up to 3 years old, to develop and expand. The grant is aimed at supporting new businesses from six months up to three years old in Blaenau Gwent, to help them develop and expand. Support can provide a maximum of 50% of eligible costs, to a maximum amount of £1,000.

Blaenau Gwent Kick Start Plus

Eligible expenditure:

• Marketing

• Website

• ICT

• Training/Accreditations

• Businesses must be based in Blaenau Gwent in order to be eligible. 

• The business should be operating for more than 30 hours per week. 

• The grant is discretionary and may provide up to 50% of eligible expenditure, to a maximum of £1,000 of support. 

• Eligible expenditure includes ICT, Marketing, Website Development, Training and Accreditation costs. Other costs may be considered if ways of adding value to the business can be demonstrated. 

• Ineligible expenditure includes VAT, vehicles, stock, consumables and revenue costs. 

• The grant will not be paid retrospectively, therefore, eligible project expenditure must not commence before approval. If any element of the eligible expenditure is committed prior to approval, the application may be rejected. 

Ineligible expenditure:

• Stock/Consumables
• VAT
• Repair and maintenance costs
• Revenue costs

Amount of grant:

• 50% of eligible and reasonable costs
• Maximum grant up to £1000 (depending on level of demand)

Who Can Apply

The grant is aimed at supporting new businesses from six months up to three years old in Blaenau Gwent, to help them develop and expand.

  • Case officer evaluation.
  • Jobs created/safeguarded.
  • Value for Money.
  • Economic Impact.
