What is the Premises Improvement Grants

Pendle Borough Council has supported 182 local hospitality, leisure and accommodation businesses who have already received a share of £571,377. The Premises Improvement Grants offers assistance of up to 50% of the eligible costs, up to a maximum of £3,000. In the West Craven area, there is a maximum of £1,500. Grants are available to improve the shop fronts of businesses in Pendle’s main towns of Barnoldswick, Barrowford, Brierfield, Colne, Earby and Nelson.

It has been widely reported that many GP practices are struggling in inadequate premises that require improvement or expansion. There are two options available to owner-occupied surgeries looking to fund premises improvement works, NHS-funded and self-funded (including borrowing capital). Often works are funded by a combination of these two options.

The Council can support as many businesses as possible it has set the grant businesses will receive:

  • Fixed premises will receive £850 
  • Mobile and self-employed businesses will receive £425. 

Who can apply for the premises improvement grant?

Eligibility:

  • occupied by commercial users and are located within Pendle and within town centre boundaries
  • redundant commercial properties located within and immediately adjacent to the town centre planning boundaries
  • improve the town’s streetscape by enhancing the appearance of the property
  • assist in the occupation of shops that have been empty for some time
  • lead to the introduction of businesses that extend the range of choice of goods and services
