What is the Walmart Local Community Grants?

The Walmart Community Grant Program provides grants to support the unique needs of local communities in the service areas of Walmart and Sam’s Club stores. Through the Community Grant Program, Walmart Foundation associates are proud to support the needs of their communities by providing grants to local organizations. For nearly 40 years, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation have been committed to strengthening local communities around the world. They believe in operating globally and giving back locally – creating an impact in the neighborhoods.

Walmart Local Community Grants

Funding areas include:

  • Community and economic development
  • Diversity and inclusion
  • Education
  • Environmental sustainability
  • Health and human services
  • Hunger relief and healthy eating
  • Public safety
  • Quality of life

Eligibility

  • Eligible nonprofit organizations must operate and their proposed program must directly benefit the communities within the service area of the facility from which they are requesting funding
  • Organizations may only submit and/or receive 25 applications
  • Grant funds may not be used to promote or engage in criminal acts of violence, terrorism, hate crimes, the destruction of any state, or discrimination on the basis of race, national origin, religion, military and veteran status, disability, sex, age, gender identity or sexual orientation, or support of any entity that engages in these activities

Organizations applying must meet one of following criteria:

  • An organization holding a current tax-exempt status as a public charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, listed on the IRS Master File and conducting activities within the United States, classified as a public charity under Section 509(a)(1), (2) or (3) (Types I or II); and CyberGrants FrontDoor verified.
  • A recognized government entity: state, county or city agency, including law enforcement or fire departments, that are requesting funds exclusively for public purposes and CyberGrants FrontDoor verified.
  • A K-12 public or nonprofit private school, charter school, community/junior college, state/private college or university; or a church or other faith-based organization with a proposed project that benefits the community at large, such as food pantries, soup kitchens and clothing closets and CyberGrants FrontDoor verified.
